CSA Basics
What is a CSA and how does it work?
CSA stands for community supported agriculture. At heart it is a partnership between a farm and the consumer. Members pay in advance for their share and are ensured a return of high quality produce and/or meat and eggs. The farm benefits considerably by being paid in advance and is ensured a consistent market at a fair price.
What is a share and what types does Rockville Market Farm offer?
A share is a box of produce and/or meat and eggs that is packed weekly by the farm and delivered to convenient neighborhood drops. Rockville Market Farm offers a Spring Share, a Summer Share and a Fall/Winter Share in the vegetable realm. The Spring and Fall/Winter Shares are offered as one size. The Summer Share is offered in small and large. The meat share is offered in four-month increments, starting in February. Eggs are available as an add-on option. The farm also maintains an extensive on-line store, so you can round out your weekly share as you see fit.
What is a Spring Share?
The Spring Share is an 8 week share, with pick-ups every other week starting in February. It is more of a localvore share, meaning that we source local products such as cheese and bread and spike it with greenhouses crops such as hakurei turnips, mesclun, over-wintered spinach and radishes. Eggs are included in this share option as well.
What is a Summer Share?
The Summer Share is our main offering. It consists of 20 weeks of fresh, certified organic vegetables delivered to convenient neighborhood locations. Shares are offered as small, medium and large. In the past determining the size of your share was a major consideration. How many people, how often do you cook, how many vegetarians, etc. were all considerations. These are still important things to ask, but we’ve added an on-line store to this web site, so you can round out your share as you see fit. Basically, a small share would accommodate a couple and a large share is for a family of four to six people. Please keep in mind that in addition to your share you will be able to access our on-line store.
What is a Fall/Winter Share?
We are very excited to offer a winter share this year. At it’s best, the share will consist of offerings from our greenhouses, root cellar, farm kitchen and walk-in freezer. This offering is in its initial stages of conception but we are thrilled with the potential here.
What is an egg share?
Eric’s Eggs is a growing part of our company. We take great pride in these eggs. They offered as shares at $4 per dozen per week.
What is a meat CSA?
We’ve struggled with this one over the last year or so. It’s still evolving but a meat CSA is four months of staple meats, such as chicken, pork sausage and hamburger. In addition to the CSA offering members will have full access to our on-line store where they will be able to buy higher end cuts such as bacon and center cut loin chops.
How do I purchase a share?
1. Create an account
2. Choose your share/s, options, etc.
3. Fund your account with $100, $250, $400 or $600.
4. As your share gets delivered and/or you purchase additional items from the on-line store we will deduct the value from your account. In order to keep receiving your share we will need authorization to charge your account if the funds are depleted.
Where do I pick-up my share?
We offer numerous drop sites in South Burlington, including Healthy Living, Orchard neighborhood, Mayfair Park, Vermont National and Butler Farms. We have a Thursday pick-up here at the farm as well as Harvest Coop in Cambridge, Mass. You can also pick-up Saturday at the Burlington Farmer’s Market. We are always looking to add pick-up sites in our region. Feel free to suggest a location.
Can I still purchase a share?
Yes, simply sign up for an account and fund it with the amount of your choosing. We will deduct the value of each week’s shares as we deliver them, as your funds are depleted we will need authorization to charge your account.
